Metering Solutions supply water meters to the UK Markets that are designed for industrial/commercial, irrigation and domestic applications. The comprehensive range of water meters are EEC Approved; this EEC Approval guarantees accuracy to the stated metrological class A, B, C & D. Changes to the EEC Approval are currently underway to the new MID Approval which means all new water meter designs need to conform to this standard and the old designs have a period of approximately 10 years to allow conversion. More details on the MID Approval can be viewed by in the news section. Also available are WRAS/WRC Approved water meters for primary metering which are used for UK domestic applications.

The meter designs vary from Single Jet , Multi Jet, Rotary Piston/ Volumetric, Woltmann, Paddle Wheel and Magflow. All water meters are supplied with local registers and can be fitted with a calibrated pulse output in our workshop for immediate despatch.

Irrigation, also known as paddle wheel, water meters are ideal for bore-hole and irrigation applications. These water meters are supplied with Test Certificates as standard which can be presented to the Environment Agency for abstraction compliance. Available in sizes 2" to 12".

The IGT Water Meter (IRRIGATION) can be used for borehole, irrigation and dirty water application due to the 'paddle wheel' design internals; this allows debris up to 30% to pass through the water meter without causing damage. News Section

EEC Approval

There are 4 classes of cover for water meters, which are A, B, C & D, under the EEC approval scheme which relates to the water meter Qt accuracy. Qt is the starting flow rate at which the water meters are accuracte to +/-5%. The other Q factors are Qmin, Qn and Qmax and the measurement accuracy is +/-2%. Qmin is the absolute minimum flow rate, Qn is the designed flow rate and Qmx is the temporary maximum flow rate but this may result in damage to the water meter. As a rule of thumb Metering Solutions recommend that all water meters are slected using the flow rates between Qmin and Qn but using Qn as the best guide. The classification of the water meters will be changing from EEC to MID (further information below)

MID APPROVAL

As of the 30 October 2006, all new designs of water meters that are to be used for legal purposes require certification under the Measuring Instruments Directive (MID) 2004/22/EC. This applies to both electronic and mechanical water meters which are intended for the measurement of volumes of clean, cold or heated water in residential, commercial or light industrial use. N.B. in the UK, only the supply of cold water to domestic premises is controlled. The MID provides manufacturers with access to the whole European market, with only one approval certificate required. Annex MI-001 of the MID is applicable to water meters and it provides manufacturers with a number of conformity assessment options.
